More bis than ever in the White House

US flag in bi coloursThis year’s annual White House Pride Month Reception will held tomorrow afternoon. Eight American bisexual community leaders and activists have been invited so a range of the country’s bi movement and organisations will be in attendance – more than ever before.

Groups invited include national umbrella group BiNet USA, the American Institute of Bisexuality, local groups in Minnesota and New York, and one of the authors of the ground-breaking 2011 San Francisco Human Rights Commission report “Bisexual Invisibility: Impacts and Recommendations”.

Five prominent bis were invited to last year’s White House LGBT event, and three and one bi activists in 2010 and 2009 respectively.

    Each year is a milestone, but we can’t forget that while we should delight in the celebrations this year at the White House, we have a lot of work to do to make sure that we will sustain the political climate and the will to hold this celebration again next year and in the years to come.
