Parliament to move on marriage
The consultation is over, the responses to it have all been counted and tallied; now at last same-sex marriage for England and Wales comes to Parliamentary debate.
The first steps will come in the next two weeks, with the first proper debate (the “second reading”) trumpeted as “before Valentine’s Day”. While Cameron, Clegg and Miliband all support the measure each of their parties will probably be split, so progress will be about the balance of support in the house rather than the balance of Coalition to Opposition MPs.
The bill will then have to bounce over to the Lords where with the Bishops added to the mix it will probably face more of a struggle.
We look forward to the bill being published.
