Another date from bi history for you: 6th July 1997 was the first London Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Pride. Previously called Lesbian & Gay Pride, the name change had happened at the start of the year following work in 1996 by a specially convened Pride Bi Working Group. For a couple of years as a result there was a bi space at London Pride, with a bi tent full of stalls and performers – including “Glad To Be Gay” singer Tom Robinson’s return to London Pride after his outing in the press as having a girlfriend. The day after Pride saw a joint picnic bringing together BiCon 96, London Bi Group, London Bi Women’s Group, London SM Bisexuals, the Black Bi Group, plus volunteers from the Bisexual Helpline and Bi Community News. Submit your favourite bi people and events to remember for LGBT History Month – see here for details

There’s a fantastic selection of bis looking for your support in this year’s LGF “Homo Heroes” awards. Of the seven categories in which the awards are given, there are bi nominations in four. How you vote is up to you of course but at BiMedia we’d love to see good results for - Natalya Dell, BiCon organiser who is shortlisted for Volunteer of the Year. - Marcus Morgan, who set up bi visibility group Bisexual Index and you may have seen on TV on Vanessa recently, shortlisted in the Role Model category. - Jen Yockney, editrix of Bi Community News magazine and behind the long-running social & support group BiPhoria, who is shortlisted for Community Champion. - and Bi Community News magazine itself, listed in the community organisation category. All four are up against serious competition so it’s a fantastic thing for bi visibility that they have made the final three in each category – but maybe your support can carry them across the line to take the trophy. You can vote and see all the other nominees here. Voting is open until September 7th.
