Marriage minister returns to Home Office

The architect of the Same-Sex Marriage Act for England and Wales, Lynne Featherstone MP. is to return to the Home Office as part of today’s mini reshuffle. She said: “I am very happy to be returning to the Home Office. I am very proud of what I was able to achieve in my previous role there, not least introducing equal marriage, ending the fingerprinting of children and banning wheel clamping on private land.”

Norman Baker MP’s resignation this morning prompted the changes.

While the Same-Sex Marriage Act began in the Home Office under Lynne Featherstone and with the support of Home Secretary Theresa May, the equalities brief including LGBT issues has in the meanwhile moved departments. It will remain the responsibility of Nicky Morgan MP (Con) and Jo Swinson MP (Lib Dem).
