Bi Visibility Day? More like a fortnight!

Bi-coloured UK mapThis year’s Bi Visibility Day events in the UK are stretched out over nine days – at least!  The September23 website sets them out – so far – as follows, while noting that new dates are still coming in to add to the diary.

Manchester, Friday 20 September: BiPhoria will be running a bi outreach stall at the local university student union (Barnes Wallis building), 7pm-9pm.

Manchester, Sunday 22 September: BiPhoria will be hosting a social afternoon for Bi Visibility Day at the LGF centre, Richmond Street. With local bi organising history talk, poster displays, food & drink and more. 2pm-5pm.
Manchester,
Sunday 22 September: BiPhoria pub quiz and social meet-up, 5.30pm into the evening. Quiz starts 6pm. Downstairs function room, Taurus, 1 Canal Street.

Brighton, Monday 23 September: bis and allies get-together over ice-cream. From 4-6pm at Gelato Gusto in the North Laine (2 Gardner Street, BN1 1UP). Look out for the BothWays flyers and the Bi Cat on the table

Monday 23 September: evening event hosted by the Co-Operative, with speakers from Bi Community News, BiUK & more. Details and online booking form here.
Sheffield, Monday 23 September: local group is organising a social event, details to be confirmed.
Southampton: Southampton Solent University will have a display about bisexuality in the Mountbatten Library from 23-30 September 2013, organised by the LGBT Staff Network, from 23rd – 30th.
Swansea, Monday 23 September: 2pm-5pm Have Your Say event, Committee Room 1, Civic Centre. Facebook has details here.

Brighton, Tuesday 24 September: “This Is What A Bisexual Looks Like Life Drawing Workshop” from 7-9pm at the Marlborough Theatre above the Marlborough Pub (4 Princes Street, BN2 1RD), hosted by Brighton Bothways.

Manchester, Wednesday 25 September: LGF will be screening a bi themed film and using it as the starting point for a discussion around bi visibility and representation. 6.30pm, LGF centre, Richmond Street.

London, Saturday 28 September: BiFete – 2pm-8pm at Brixton Community Base, £3 entry – details here. 

Upcoming bi meets around the country

local groupsSeptember is here and while there is lots going on later in the month for Bi Visibility Day, there are upcoming bi meets in the next few days in Glasgow and Manchester, Cardiff and Brighton. In London there’s even a panel debate about bisexuality with a focus on the workplace.

Bi Glasgow meets today, Sunday 1st September, from 2pm-4pm at Gay Men’s Health center, Fourth Floor 30 Bell Street Merchant City Glasgow G1 1LG. Despite the name of the venue, it’s a mixed group with bis of all genders welcome.

Manchester BiPhoria meets on Tuesday 3rd, from 7.30pm at the LGF community centre, 5 Richmond Street, Manchester M1 3HF – Richmond Street is in the gay village parallel to Canal Street, just a little closer to the city centre.

In London on Wednesday evening, there’ll be a Bisexuality Panel Debate at Citi bank. This is hosted by Citi Pride LGBT staff network and GWN professional gay (and bi) women’s network. Speakers include Louise Carolin, Deputy Editor of Diva magazine, Marcus Morgan from Bisexual Index, Sarah Foster, Client Group Manager at Stonewall, and Vicky Leggot, Equity Fund Manager at Union Bancaire Privee. Brighton Bis Pre-Pride Meetup Today

Brighton Bis are having a meet-up today ahead of Pride.

It’s a space to network with other Bisexual People – and allies (partners, friends family and everyone else bi-friendly) – a chance to make plans for Pride with Brighton BothWays folks and to meet new people so that that you can feel confident that come Pride you won’t be the only Bi on the field!

It’s being held at the lovely Gelato Gusto Ice Cream Shop – 2 Gardner Street, BN1 1UP in the North Laine.

They say, “you can drop in and out again any time over the 2 hours – look out for the Bunny and BothWays flyers on our table.”

Vote Bothways!

Voting has opened in this year’s annual Golden Handbag awards,golden handbags and Brighton’s local bi group Bothways have been shortlisted.

The group, established ten years ago this autumn, is nominated in the category for best community social / leisure organisation.

You can vote in Brighton LGBT magazine GScene’s awards online here and find out about how to buy tickets to the award ceremony too – the Golden Handbags have raised many thousands of pounds for local causes over the years.

This bi week around the UK…

local groupsHappy mayday! What’s going on around Bi Britain this week?

On Thursday it’s the talky space meeting for bis in and around Cardiff from 6.30pm.  From 8.30 there’s a social open to partners, friends and allies too.

On the same night in Brighton, local group Bothways have their regular get-together at the Friends Meeting House, Ship Street from 6.30pm.

The London Bi Coffee meetup is this Saturday from 3pm at Spitalfields Market.

Looking ahead to next Tuesday, Manchester bis get together for their regular talky-space meeting at the LGF centre from 730pm, with a guest speaker from Albert Kennedy Trust.
