Today i’ve been extra-alert to anyone wearing purple. Wondering whether they’ve put it on specially for Bi Visibility Day or whether it’s just that they like the colour? (or maybe it’s their laundry day and that purple t-shirt was the only clean top they had left?) It got me speculating (in a non-creepy way!) about the possible sexualities of an otherwise pretty random selection of people (not just the ones with goth-y/hippy clothes and interesting hair – they may be popular styles at BiCon but that’s still only a small section of the wider Bi community). It’s been a useful exercise in making me aware of the assumptions I still make in spite of several years of sitting on stalls telling people to “Assume Nothing”. Any of those purple-clad people could have been bisexual – or maybe none of them were. It would be nice to think they were all allies but I know we’ve still got a way to go with that …
