The current law is different for same-sex and different-sex couples and I think this should be changed so it applies equally. <\/p>\n<p>At the present time I support equality in all marriages whether performed on behalf of the state or in those religious institutions that choose to hold them.<br \/>    If religious groups would like to marry people of whatever gender I think they should be free to do so. I understand the government plans to ban at least the Church of England from performing same-sex marriages. I do not approve of that ban. <\/p>\n<p>In the near future I would prefer legal marriage to be the preserve of the state as it is in several other countries.<br \/>    I think that any other ceremonies, religious or secular should be up those involved but not have legal weight nor be unduly interfered with by the state. <\/p>\n<p>Longer term, I don&#8217;t see why the state should have an interest in people&#8217;s marriages: if people want to be together and hold some form of ceremony or make legal contracts that should be up to them.
