{"id":4807,"date":"2017-06-16T09:16:13","date_gmt":"2017-06-16T08:16:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/j-applebee.tumblr.com\/post\/161884200943"},"modified":"2017-06-16T09:16:13","modified_gmt":"2017-06-16T08:16:13","slug":"im-not-vegan-but-this-post-is-i-have-a-food-sensitivity-to","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bimedia.org\/blogs\/2017\/06\/im-not-vegan-but-this-post-is-i-have-a-food-sensitivity-to\/","title":{"rendered":"I\u2019m not vegan but this post is. \u00a0I have a food sensitivity to&#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/68.media.tumblr.com\/67a11f3cf9b24cb413d45e74a0ff7d0d\/tumblr_ormsb1Mazh1qd3j1wo1_500.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/68.media.tumblr.com\/e21089c2667d7731f66d3cc094731a11\/tumblr_ormsb1Mazh1qd3j1wo2_500.jpg\"\/><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m not vegan but this post is. \u00a0I have a food sensitivity to lactose (milk-based food) and I\u2019m also diabetic. \u00a0When my partner became vegetarian, it made sense to me for us both to be vegan, instead of cooking two seperate dishes at mealtimes. \u00a0I\u2019m no longer vegan, but the things I learned during that time have stayed with me. \u00a0I have an appreciation of vegetables that I used to hate before; I grew to love tofu more than anything (except peanut butter). \u00a0I also learned how to make the most of what I have in the cupboard instead of buying (often expensive) vegan substitutes. \u00a0I still make homemade chocolate, nut milks, vegan chicken nuggets &#038; ice cream, even though I stopped identifying as vegan years ago.<\/p>\n<p>One of the things that made me stop being vegan was the HUGE RACISM I experienced in white vegan spaces. \u00a0A good primer on this is here\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/mediadiversified.org\/2015\/12\/16\/veganism-has-a-serious-race-problem\/\" >https:\/\/mediadiversified.org\/2015\/12\/16\/veganism-has-a-serious-race-problem\/<\/a>\u00a0<b>Trigger Warning:<\/b> disturbing image near the start.<\/p>\n<p>Sadly, the few black vegans I encountered were for the most part deeply problematic too &#8211; often so Afrocentric that anything &#038; anyone who didn&#8217;t\u00a0come straight from a Anhk-Right, Hotep conference was shunned. \u00a0That included my black, british, bisexual backside.<\/p>\n<p>It seems that (as per bloody usual) black vegans in the US have a more welcoming setup.\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.blackvegansrock.com\/blog\/\" >http:\/\/www.blackvegansrock.com\/blog\/<\/a><\/p>\n<p>So the main point of this post: I was on a hunt for some new recipes when I realised there are some WEIRD ASS people making vegan cooking vids online.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>There\u2019s\u00a0the swearing Grandma\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/m.youtube.com\/watch?v=32oIb2B1WyA\" >https:\/\/m.youtube.com\/watch?v=32oIb2B1WyA<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The weird puppet guy\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/m.youtube.com\/watch?v=ieyzHZdFmyg\" >https:\/\/m.youtube.com\/watch?v=ieyzHZdFmyg<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The death metal chef\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/m.youtube.com\/watch?v=bX3swY3r81c\" >https:\/\/m.youtube.com\/watch?v=bX3swY3r81c<\/a><\/p>\n<p>So, yeah. \u00a0If vegans could stop being so git-faced for a while, that would be great for everyone.
