{"id":9104,"date":"2022-04-14T22:30:00","date_gmt":"2022-04-14T21:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bimedia.org\/blogs\/?guid=9bf16a291bfe3b7d783982d3eb7ee3c0"},"modified":"2022-04-14T22:30:41","modified_gmt":"2022-04-14T21:30:41","slug":"tv-memories","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bimedia.org\/blogs\/2022\/04\/tv-memories\/","title":{"rendered":"TV Memories"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Tuesday night we held a special session at People&#8217;s History Museum, with Manchester Pride.<\/p>\n<p>We talked about bi representation on television, and below are the names of all the shows people shared for our timeline of TV memories.&nbsp;  Where people included notes about the character portrayal I&#8217;ve added  those.<\/p>\n<p>As you&#8217;d expect &#8211; <strong>SPOILERS AHEAD!&nbsp;<\/strong> <\/p>\n<p><strong>Buffy The Vampire Slayer<\/strong> &#8211; Willow (dates Oz and Tara, B word isn&#8217;t said specifically)<br \/><strong>Powerpuff Girls<\/strong> &#8211; HIM is a villain who is camp, fun, cartoon fake and cool.<br \/><strong>VMA Awards 2003<\/strong> &#8211; the kiss with Madonna Britney and Christina.&nbsp; Fetishising of sexual contact between women?<br \/><strong>Brooklyn 99<\/strong> &#8211; Rosa Diaz is a really positive and &#8216;real&#8217; feeling; coming out episodes really well done and relateable<br \/><strong>She-Ra<\/strong> (netflix remake not the 80s version) &#8211; Sea-Hawk is canon bi<br \/><strong>Euphoria<\/strong> &#8211; Jules&#8217; bisexuality is addressed later in the show when she starts dating a woman<br \/><strong>The 100<\/strong> &#8211; Clarke is but it&#8217;s unaddressed same as other LGBTQ characters in the series<br \/><strong>Glee<\/strong> &#8211; Brittney &#8211; her (lesbian) girlfriend and other gay characters were discussed, however her sexuality was not addressed<br \/><strong>Shadowhunter<\/strong> &#8211; Magnus is actually described as a &#8220;freewheeling bisexual&#8221;<br \/><strong>Schitt&#8217;s Creek<\/strong> &#8211; David is described as pansexual but very welcoming portrayal and the wine analogy is everything<br \/>&nbsp;and I use it to explain bi\/pan all the time<br \/><strong>The Bi Show<\/strong> (<i>side note: I think the writer means &#8220;The Bi Life&#8221;<\/i>) &amp; RuPaul&#8217;s  Drag Race. In particular Courtney Act &#8211; bisexuality was not brought up in RuPaul Drag  Race but later CA hosted a show on bisexuality.<br \/><strong>The Bold Type<\/strong> &#8211; Kat Edison. Addresses the invalidation of the bi experience even  within LGBT spaces and being called &#8220;fence sitter&#8221; or &#8220;piut stop before  coming out as gay&#8221;.<br \/><strong>The Good Place<\/strong> &#8211; Tahani and Elanor. No labels placed but it is implied and no one bats an eyelid<br \/><strong>Killing Eve<\/strong><br \/><strong>Gentleman Jack<\/strong> &#8211; hard to tell motivations due to being a period drama with social expectations of the time<br \/>And coming soon: <strong>Heartstopper<\/strong> starts 22 April 2022.
