Bi erasure and the many names of May ...

May 17, 2016 ~ Written by Jennifer ~ Leave a Comment
Debates over the IDAHo((Bi)T) acronym overlap with bi erasure. Actions beyond the name can reveal which is which. It’s an anniversary today. On May 17, 1990, the World Health Organization declassified same-sex attraction as a mental disorder, stating that “homosexuality is not a disease, a disturbance or a [...]

Visiting Nottingham University by bus...

BiCon comes to Nottingham this weekend, so I thought I’d deploy some of my local knowledge to be useful to people :-) This post is mainly about buses and bus stops… but I must also say first, don’t be misled by the tram testing! The trams which go to the new tram stop at the University are being tested at the moment, and so [...]

Video of a speech on “Bi erasure”

Jul 10, 2015 ~ Written by Jennifer ~ Leave a Comment
Seven minutes of me talking mostly about bi erasure, with subtitles and timings, plus some back-story in the blog post. On Sunday 17 May 2015, it was IDAHoBiT – “International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia & Transphobia”. I was one of about half a dozen people who spoke at a gathering in Nottingham. [...]

Thoughts on #BiStonewall

Feb 06, 2015 ~ Written by Jennifer ~ Leave a Comment
Some thoughts, as a kind of open letter to UK “lesbian, gay and bisexual charity” Stonewall, related to an event this week and their work after that. Stonewall are hosting a day this Saturday with a theme of “We want to hear from bi people about how Stonewall can best campaign to tackle biphobia.” It follows o [...]

Three levels of bi erasure

Oct 07, 2014 ~ Written by Jennifer ~ Leave a Comment
I’m thinking let’s talk more about bi erasure. Here, I attempt to put into everyday language some ideas from Kenji Yoshino’s excellent essay on the subject, The epistemic contract of bisexual erasure (PDF). The under-representation of bi people is often spoken of in terms of “bi invisibility”. [...]

Labels, bi erasure and Tom Daley’s wo...

Apr 25, 2014 ~ Written by Jennifer ~ Leave a Comment
So, Tom Daley said “I Am a Gay Man Now”? Actually no. That’s not a phrase which has ever yet – as far as I know – come out of his mouth in a public context. In his original 6-minute coming-out video, back in December, he didn’t use any labels of that kind – instead simply describin [...]

Site Backstory:

BiBloggers was launched in September 2010 following a bisexual blogging workshop at the 10th International Conference on Bisexuality in London, UK.

Jen Yockney brought the idea of a site that shared bi blogs to the workshop and a couple of weeks later, with hosting from BiMedia.org, the site was born.
